You might know that Pam gets to interview a lot of great musicians on her radio show at 89.7fm WNKU.  Recently on her Sunday Noon-3pm show, "The Front Porch", Pam got to speak with Chris Thile, Bryan Sutton and the How to Grow a Band.  Listen to the segment here!

...And Now for Something Different...but Not Completely...

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

It's finished and ready for your ears!  Here's what our record label has to say:

"WILD CARROT have long been known for their eclectic blending and bending of musical genres, included swing standards and traditional jazz tunes. Their latest exploration, collaborating with pianist Hank Ross and with some of the tradition's best players, resulted in this fine collection of standards recorded in New York and aptly titled I've Heard That Song Before. Joining the trio are clarinetist Pete Martinez (Vince Giordano's big band The Nighthawks; Revival of Jimmy Noon's The Apex Project), trumpet great Simon Wettenhall (The National Underground; Woody Allen's traditional jazz band) and bassist David Dreiwitz (New York City's School of Rock). With its unique and playful arrangements, from the title cut to "There Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens" and venerable classics like "Oh Lady Be Good", tempered with WILD CARROT's fresh synthesis of folk and jazz, this trove of musical treasures from a storied era of American music evokes both a timelessness and nostalgia that are sure to bring a smile to the listener."

“First-rate, in-demand musicians are among the nicest, paradise-est of people – each wants to make the other sound good; to be both center stage and yet there to back you up in a dreamy blend of risk and generosity.  It’s why we love them.  It’s why many of you would have given a lot to be with me during these sessions . . . and now you will be.”  (From the liner notes by Beverly Coyle, author and playwright, In Troubled Waters, Parallel Lives)

We had so much fun making this record and we think that shows.  We hope you'll enjoy it!  Order yours now!

We are honored to have been chosen twice to tour Chile as "Folk Music Ambassadors".  It's a beautiful country and we were lucky to see more of it than most Chileans do as we toured up and down the coast playing festivals, concerts and master classes.  Here are a few shots.

Spencer on a typical "street" in Valparaiso, Chile, our favorite place in Chile.  It's an artists' town, built on seven steep hills above a bay.  When we win the lottery, we're gonna move here.

The view of beautiful Valparaiso from late Chilean poet Pablo Neruda's office window. Green ink stains in the sink.

In front of the postcard-perfect volcano in Villa Rica, Chile during our tour.

Students at the liberal arts college in Santiago, Chile.  We gave a master class during our recent tour.
